A poured concrete pool engineered onto a structural deck high above the city.
The brief was to put a real concrete pool, not a steel tank, on top of an existing CBD building. The load case was tight. The water column had to be carried by the existing structural deck without modification beyond a localised strengthening package.
We worked alongside the building's structural engineers to design a thinner steel-reinforced concrete shell with a load-spreading slab below. The pool was poured in stages over four weekends to keep the building trading. Five years on, the pool reads as if it has always been part of the rooftop.
