The Whale Beach property runs back from a coastal headland with the ocean filling the eastern view. The pool had to sit between the house and the horizon without breaking the line.

We poured a low concrete shell with a wet edge facing the ocean. Travertine coping. Dark grey interior that picks up the colour of the water beyond. The wet edge spills onto a long stone weir and recirculates underneath. From the kitchen, you read pool, weir, ocean.

The Whale Beach block runs back from a headland with the ocean filling the view, so the pool had to sit between the house and the horizon without breaking the line. Concrete lets us pour a low shell and a wet edge shaped exactly to that outlook.

What finishes stand up to a beachfront setting?

Here we used travertine coping and a dark grey interior that picks up the colour of the water beyond. Both are durable choices that suit an exposed coastal site on the Northern Beaches.
