Vaucluse Project.

This Vaucluse pool sits on a level garden site behind the house, screened on every side by mature planting. The shell, the coping and the paving levels were set together, so the stone runs to the water line and the terrace and the pool finish as one surface.

The interior is a blue glass mosaic, carried through the floor, the bench and the step faces rather than the floor alone. Tiling the whole shell in one finish keeps the colour even as the floor steps down and keeps the shape of the pool readable under water. A bench runs the full length of one side, wide enough to sit on, with a separate stepped entry at the shallow end. The terrace opens straight onto the poolside pavilion, so the water and the covered lounge work as one outdoor room.
