NORTHERN BEACHES. MANLY

Concrete pool builders in Manly.

Steel-reinforced concrete pools drawn for Manly's ocean and harbour blocks. Designed and built by a family practice in Belrose since 1968.

Building in Manly

A pool that fits the peninsula.

Manly runs from the Corso terraces down to the headland houses, a dense mix of period homes, semis and apartments on small blocks. Ocean on one side, harbour on the other. The land sits flat through the town centre and turns steep on the headlands. That mix shapes every pool we draw here.

We walk the block, read the access and the slope and the light, and draft a concrete shell that belongs there. On a tight Manly site that is usually a courtyard plunge or a narrow lap pool, lifted in over the house when the street will not take a truck. Concrete is the only material that lets us cut a pool to a space this constrained.

Manly is about 25 minutes from our Belrose yard, so our supervisors are on sites across the peninsula through the week. One Wright supervisor stays on your project from excavation to handover.

Local conditions

What building in Manly involves.

01
Ground
Sand near the beach, Hawkesbury sandstone on the higher streets. The shell is engineered for whichever the block sits on.
02
Slope
Flat through the town centre, steep on the ocean and harbour headlands. Steep blocks often suit a raised or view-facing shell.
03
Access
Narrow terrace streets and tight rear lanes, so a crane lift over the house is common. We plan the lift before we price the job.
04
Coastal exposure
Ocean on one side, harbour on the other, so salt-grade fittings and the right interior and coping matter from day one.
05
Council
Manly Lagoon is one of the four Northern Beaches coastal lagoons, so low streets near it can carry a flood control on the approval.
06
Distance
About 25 minutes from our Belrose base. Close enough that the same team is on your Manly site start to finish.

Pool styles

What suits a Manly block.

A
Plunge pools
Compact concrete shells for Manly's small terrace and semi blocks. Built to the same standard as a full lap pool.
B
Courtyard pools
A pool cut into a tight rear courtyard, drawn around the house rather than squeezed in beside it.
C
Lap pools
Long, narrow shells for the deeper blocks, built for a swim before the walk to the beach.

Frequently asked

Manly pool questions.

Can you build a pool on a tight Manly block?
Yes. Manly runs to narrow terrace streets and tight rear lanes, so a crane lift over the house is often the way we get plant and materials in. A concrete pool is drawn to the space, so a compact courtyard plunge is built to the same standard as a long lap pool. We assess access at the site visit.
Will a concrete pool hold up in Manly's salt conditions?
Yes. Manly has ocean on one side and harbour on the other, so salt air is part of the build. A steel-reinforced shell with the right interior, coping and marine-grade fittings is engineered for that exposure, which is why concrete has lasted on this coast for decades.
How far is Manly from your base?
Manly is about 25 minutes from our Belrose yard. We build across the whole Northern Beaches, so our supervisors are on Manly sites regularly.
